As we move closer to the end of 2020, we have been reminding ourselves of the way our people have responded to challenges and changes that nobody could have anticipated.
In the face of adversity and increased pressure, they didn’t just maintain focus and enthusiasm. On a global scale, they truly rose to occasion, taking their responsibilities to the supply chain, medical professionals and patients seriously, even in new markets.
That’s why, on December 4th 2020, we were delighted to be visited by Stephen Hammond MP, Member of Parliament for Wimbledon, Raynes Park, Morden and Motspur Park.
Showcasing our incredible team
Stephen’s visit was an opportunity to see how our team keep the medicines supply chain moving, even in the most difficult circumstances. Crucially, Stephen was able to meet people from every part of the business, many of whom are considered key workers and continued to work throughout the pandemic.
In the course of 2020, every individual has had to clarify and commit to important responsibilities. Our warehouse teams have remained at the beating heart of logistics, making sure that vital medicines and PPE reach people quickly and, efficiently. Meanwhile, our commercial team have had to respond to a changing landscape of supply, including finding new ways to procure important PPE.
It’s thanks to the continued commitment of our people that were able to continue to grow our activity and find new ways to deliver on a global scale. We were subject to two MHRA successful MHRA inspections, implemented new technology to support our regulatory compliance, and continued to recruit key new personnel.
For Smartway, 2020 was opportunity to validate our way of doing business in every area, from our resilient supply chain to quality control and compliance, and then use this as a foundation for new ideas. Every employee, in every role, has made a significant, meaningful contribution to our success.
The impact of a collective effort
Stephen also recognised the important contribution Smartway employees made to the wider needs of communities, patients and our NHS.
“I was delighted to visit Smartway and learn about their business. Making sure that our drugs and medicines reach hospitals and pharmacists is a vital part of keeping us all healthy. I met many dedicated people in both the warehouse and office teams who have ensured that this happened.”

For Stephen, the visit was also a chance to see how our spirit of innovation and improvement influences our work as part of the local community.
“I was fascinated to hear of the developments in technology that Smartway has implemented. And their commitment to training and community schemes was impressive. It’s really wonderful to have such an innovative company based in Wimbledon.”
Stephen Hammond, Member of Parliament for Wimbledon
For us, the visit was a great opportunity to reflect on the people who left their families, came to work, and delivered excellence every day, right throughout the course of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“While most of the country was staying safe at home, our team continued to do their important work. The whole team stepped up, demonstrating extraordinary commitment and enthusiasm. I’m proud to have been able to share this incredible work with Stephen.”
Josh Cocklin, Chief Executive
Thanks to their combined efforts, patients continued to receive their medicines, practitioners were equipped with high quality PPE, and hospitals and pharmacies were able to complete their important work.
