On Monday, 6th February 2023 at 4:17 am local time, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck southern Türkiye near the city of Gaziantep, devastating parts of Türkiye and Syria. It was followed by a series of powerful aftershocks affecting the region with devasting impacts. Later at 13:24 local time, a further earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 struck the Elbistan district. The current reports indicate that around 11,224 have been killed, with many thousands more injured. These numbers continue to rise as the scale of the devastation is better understood. The World Health Organisation has indicated that the toll could be as high as 20,000.

Smartway Pharmaceuticals has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting those affected by the recent earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria. In addition to supplying essential pharmaceutical and medicinal products directly, Smartway has pledged a contribution to the British Red Cross as part of their Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal. Our team is working with other charities and non-governmental organisations on the ground who are providing vital relief efforts to those affected by the earthquake.

We recognise that our supply chain is integral in ensuring continued access to medicines for those affected in the region. We have taken proactive steps to ensure that existing supplies remain stable throughout this period of disruption.
